Java is one of DMH's major epic works that is based on the music of the javanese gamelan. The gamelan is an ensemble that includes wooden-keyed and stringed instruments, as well as flutes, gongs and percussion. The music itself is thought to be the manifestation of kasekten a super-natural power. This communal offering of music, incense and flowers brings the musicians and the community together in an ancient multi-media event.
The three projects of "java" is DMH's offering to you as an introduction to this magnificent artform. Balungen is a relaxed, but very powerful piece that includes elements of the gamelan mixed with actual orchestral strings.
