When I was 17 years old (1970) and very obsessed with anything recording, LA was of course the center of the recording industry. After some thought, I decided to jump on a greyhound bus and take the cross country trip from Indianapolis to LA to see if that life might be for me. The long and short of it was that It was simply too much for this young puppy to wrap his head around. However, I quickly decided to take two weeks and try to visit as many studios as I could and document everything that I saw, studio-wise. My greatest memory was spending an entire day with Al Schmit at Sunset Sound. Al was working on a 16-track mix and allowed me to enter into his life for a full day. Here are the notes from the trip.
